What Is Art?

"That which is static and repetitive is boring. That which is dynamic and random is confusing. In between lies art."

The Fairbanks Panther Winter Guard finished the regular competitive season this weekend at Westerville North HS, increasing their score over last week by another 5 points and performing a near FLAWLESS show...  a total gain in score of 22 for the season!!  The guard was also recognized as the most improved Winter Guard of the season by members of the MidEast Judges Association.   Their next performance is at MEPA championships on April 2nd.  Congratulations on a great season!!

Wise Words for the Weekend

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong -- because someday you will have been all of these."

Field Commander Auditions 4/16

Any veteran member of the FMB who is interested in auditioning for Field Commander for the 2005 season needs to see Mr. Keller before Spring break to get an information packet and faculty recommendation forms. Auditions will be held on Monday, April 18 at 3:15 P.M. If you have any questions, please see me. Help sessions will be scheduled on an individual basis depending on my schedule and your schedule. You could also check with past field commanders for individual help!

From John's Dad: John's gonna be on TV!!!

"For those of you who are interested, John called home last night to tell us that he is flying out to California today with the pep band for the Women's NCAA Tournament in Fresno. John played with the hockey pep band all winter. They needed another bass drummer of the women's basketball pep band so he got the call. The game is supposed to be televised Friday night. He said to look for him in the front row. GO IRISH!!!!"

The game is now 1:30 P.M. on Saturday.

Update 2

Apparently enough ND students couldn't get out of class to take the trip so it's been cancelled. John is NOT going to California....with an aching in his heart.

Pay your taxes or face the music
Fri Mar 11, 3:07 AM ET
HYDERABAD, India (Reuters) - Tax defaulters in southern India are being
forced to face the music after city authorities hired drummers to play
non-stop outside their homes until they pay up. After many residents
ignored repeated demands to settle overdue property taxes. authorities
in a city in Andhra Pradesh state have sent 20 groups of drummers to
play outside offenders' houses for the past week. "They put up a
spectacle outside the houses of defaulters, draw them out and explain
their dues to them and the need to clear it at the earliest," said
T.S.R. Anjaneyulu, municipal commissioner of Rajahmundry city. "They
don't stop until people agree to clear the dues." The city, owed a total
of 50 million rupees (600,000 pounds), had been at its wits' end after
sops like waiving interest and penalties had failed to recover the
arrears. The new method seems to be working, though. One week of
incessant drumming has clea…

Wise words from Woodrow Wilson

"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand."
-- Woodrow Wilson

P.S. - I hope you're all having a good weekend.
