Happy New Year!

HAPPY 2006 BANDOS AND BLOG READERS!

John Adams Sez...

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
- John Quincy Adams (6th US President (1825-29), eldest son of John Adams, 2nd US president. 1767-1848)

Candles?

Hey...no one asked me if I wanted to buy a candle. I'll buy from the first NY trip person to contact me. I burned the sample candle over break and it is wonderful (and still not even 1/3 gone).

Peace on Earth

"I heard the bells on Christmas Day; their old familiar carols play, and wild and sweet the word repeat of peace on earth, good-will to men!"
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. the most popular American Poet in the 19th century, 1807

Merry Christmas!

Image
On behalf of the entire Keller family and the Fairbanks Music Department, I'd like to wish every band member, choir member, parent, booster, friend, neighbor, and random blog visitor a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thanks, Alumni Band!

Image
I would like to thank all of the Fairbanks Alumni who could join us for this second annual event. It was great seeing you all and talking to you as well. It's one of the most rewarding nights of my year, knowing that you had a good enough time when in school that you want to come back and do it again. I'm honored that after being students for so many years, I can now call you friends.

Thanks also to the pep band seniors (soon-to-be alumni) that joined us and helped us keep it together!

A few pics are here, there's more on the picture page.

MS Concert Tuesday

JH and 6th band members: please remember your instrument and music tomorrow. We'll warm at 9:15. See you there!

Merry TubaChristmas!

Image
Thanks to everyone who participated in Merry TubaChristmas in Bellefontaine this afternoon. You all sounded great! There were over TWICE as many performers this year than there were last. You are to be commended :-)

Thanks also to everyone in the audience...friends, family, and neighbors who came to listen. We hope you enjoyed singing and listening.

TubaChristmas December 10

Image
So...you ask what is Tuba Christmas? The TubaChristmas web site tells you all about how it started, who Harvey Phillips is, what it means, and who participates.

The local TubaChristmas is this Saturday, December 10, in Bellefontaine at the Holland Theater. If you are a tuba/euphonium player, registration is at 12:30, rehearsal is at 1, and the show is at 2. Wear festive holiday colors. Registration is $5 and books of music are $12. All proceeds benefit the Harvey Philips Foundation.

If you are NOT a tuba or euphonium player, you should come see the concert and enjoy the wondrous sound of low brass playing all of your favorite Christmas carols. The concert is at 2 and will last about 45 mintues. The Holland Theater is at 127 E. Columbus Ave. in Bellefontaine, and is a beautiful and good-sounding venue for this event. Several Fairbanks band low brass members will be participating, so spread the word.

Merry TubaChristmas!

P.S. - The picture is from TubaChristmas in Rockefellar Center…

FHS Students - Attendance Issues

There have been some issues with some high school band and choir students and unexcused absences to school. As a general reminder, if you are unexcused to school, you are also unexcused to rehearsal, and your grade will be docked 5 points for each time this happens. School policy dictates that students who are absent from school MUST submit a note from a parent for the absence no later than THREE DAYS after the absence. The exact language can be found in the high school student handbook at the Fairbanks High School Page and click on "student handbook". In short, be HERE or be EXCUSED, or your participation grade will suffer. A good portion of your grade in band and choir is based on your participation in rehearsals, and if you miss these rehearsals for unexcused reasons, you are not learning as much as you could, and are essential weakening the group.

If you or your parents have any questions about the school attendance policy or music department attendance policy, ple…

Choir Concert Music

I have the piano music for the choir concert put into Finale and I must say it sounds really cool. The O Come All Ye Faithful version is for pipe organ and it sounds fantastic. We'll rehearse all of the pieces with accompaniment Thursday. We'll be singing All Though The Night acapella, and I will be playing piano for Eagle's Wings. The iPod will play O Come, Winter Wonderland, and Edelweiss.

Here's The Deal On Friday...

Okay...could be as much as 9 inches of snow overnight Thursday night. The official word from the athletic department is that the game may not necessarily be cancelled just because school is cancelled. Please check here at this blog or by calling my school phone at 937-349-3721 ext. 306 to find out the status of the game. Even if the game goes on, if you feel roads are unsafe, do not risk it. I will probably be at the game no matter what, and if we have enough for a band, we'll play. If not, so be it. We still get the best seats in the house.

I'll have all of this in writing on a piece of paper tomorrow for all JH and HS band members.

Concert is Tuesday!!!

Just a little reminder to all blog readers that the holiday concert is Tuesday at 7PM. Please be sure to have your attire in order. All the details are on the Official Band Web Page. Also a reminder that attendance is required for all performers.

Pep Band Friday 12/9

The next pep band game (and the last this month) is this Friday, December 9. We will be working Bohemian Rhapsody in detail, and will premeire it that night! Be sure to have your pep band shirt, or other fairbanks-colored clothing clean for the gig. Rehearsal starts at 6:15

A Contest! (subtitle: I Stumbled Across Some Art)

Image
I stumbled across some of my favorite paintings on a blog. Do you know the name of this one? First FHS bando to post the correct title in the comments gets one bonus point. You know you need it. Let the contest BEGIN!

Pictures from Marysville Parade

Image
Pictures from the Marysville Holiday parade have been posted on the picture page for your viewing pleasure.

I was very proud of all the band members who braved the cold to perform at this important parade and spread some holiday cheer. I was also most disappointed that some of you chose to be absent and unexcused to this parade. You are an important part of our group and you were missed. We were not as good as we could have been if you were here.

Uniform turn in begins Monday. Please make sure you put your gauntles in your bag. See you then!

FMB - Be Prepared for COLD

The good news is that today is going to be the warmest day in the near future. The bad news is it's only going to be 35. Please come prepared with extra layers under your uniform, extra gloves, and sock hats. You're also welcome to bring a big coat or blanket to wear over your uniform until the parade begins, when you can put it on the trailer and pick it up again at the end. It's a beautiful day for a holiday parade....IF you are prepared :-)

FMB - The Parade is ON!

The parade is ON as of this post. School is open at noon, warm up is at 1, and the parade is at 2.

Mr. Keller is a Photo-Loser

I was enjoying tonight's game and your performance tonight that I completely forgot to take any pictures :-(

To try to make up for my forgetfulness, I have included some never-before-seen pictures from our back-library of photos. Enjoy!

Fairbanks Pep Band Premiere is ON, BABY!

Tonight's home game with Triad is ON. If roads are treacherous, please check here on the blog, or HERE for the NBC 4 list of cancellations. Unless posted otherwise, I'll see you at 6!

Food will be provided during the third quarter for all band members for a nominal fee ($2-3 or so). Please wear your shirt and bring your PANTHER SPIRIT!

Pep Band Saturday

Yep...time for the first pep band game of the year! We warm at 6. Please wear your pep band tshirt and bring your instrument and your folder. Go Panthers!

Field Trip Friday

Just a reminder to those FMB and Choir members that are going on the trip to wear nice school clothes and bring money for lunch. Please also remember to bring money for lunch. See you at 8:25!
