Saturday Morning Not So Early; There Was Much Rejoicing!

Our performance time is now 11:30, which means our whole start to the day is pushed back one hour. Load at 7:45, leave at 8:15. The awards are still at 1:30, so the rest of the times remain unchanged. I'll have a revised itinerary ready for you Wednesday morning!

Flickr Problems at school

The filter picked up and blocked our band picture page again, and it is partially fixed. If you have trouble getting blocked at school, use THIS LINK. For some reason is blocked, but just is fine. You can use the link in this blog entry, or just type in until they unblock the www version.

NOTE: Outside the school network, both addresses should work fine. It will be fixed eventually in-house, but I don't want to edit every link I've ever posted to the flickr page unless I absolutely have to.

Sam is much Better this

Sam is much Better this morning and should be coming Home From the hospital. Enjoy your two hour Delay. I will be in around 11:30.

I'm Out Friday AM ONLY.

I'm staying the night in the hospital with Sam, so I'll be by lunch tomorrow.  Sam is doing much better, but has to stay over for observation.  He's feeling better, but still feeling the effects of a monkey bar to the head.  Please be cooperative with your sub, JHCB, Gen. Music, and 6th grade band.  Everything as usual tomorrow night for FMB.

I Was Out...Will Be In

Thanks to band and choir for being so flexible since I had to leave on such short notice. I will be in tomorrow.

Thanks also for all of your kind words and prayers. Sam has a concussion and is in the hospital overnight tonight for observation. I'll be offline for a good bit of time tonight, so please be patient with my responses to emails.

Everything is still on for tomorrow night at the Conklins' and for the home game. Please read the blog for all the important info.

Congrats From Your Superintendent

Blue Devils Horn Line

I told FMB members I would post this so here it is. Sweet horn line warm up!

FMB: Ch...Ch...Ch...Changes

I said it before, but I'll say it again where everyone can read it: I have never had a band that has adapted to change better than you all have this week. Two new charts and four new visuals are big for any band, and you have attacked them with enthusiasm and attention to detail. We'll have to practice them all quite a bit so they are automatic next week, but we're off to a great start! Let's enjoy the luxury of a home game Friday!

BTW, if you don't get the picture, put it together with the title of the post and look it up :-)

REMINDER: FMB Tailgate Spread Hosted by the Conklins - Sept. 21

Before our next home game, the Allison's family has been kind enough to invite the FMB and family members to a tailgate party at their home. There will be flowing amounts of music, food, fun, games, PRIDE! It will be held from 4-5:30 on Friday, September 21 before the home game vs. Lima Perry. Directions and details are available on the flyer and poster in the band room. Band members need to RSVP on the list on Mr. Keller's door. Families of band members are also invited, but need to RSVP on a seperate list next to the member list. All food and beverages are being provided by Gary and Nancy Conklin and the Fairbanks Music Boosters. Things will wrap up promptly at 5:30, as rehearsal for our second home performance begins at 6PM sharp. We hope you will come and share in the food and fun, and get ready for a big night of band and football!

Weather for Friday

Looks light there's a slight chance of rain tonight, but the radar looks pretty good so far. I'll have cold-weather coats out for assignment today. There's no doubt that it will be COOL tonight, so come prepared with gloves over gloves, blankets, etc. to stay warm in the stands.

Flute For Sale

Fifth graders, or anyone for that matter...I have been contacted about a flute for sale. It is an Emerson student flute, newly tuned up and in good condition. Price is $275. Please contact Mrs. Alma Westfall at 937-642-5319.

FMB - Polos Friday; Tshirts Saturday; Name in Shoes

Since this is a double-performance weekend, please wear your band polo (collared) shirt on Friday night and your FMB tshirt on Saturday under your uniform.

Please do not wear jeans under your uniforms either night nor ever. If it's warmer, shorts are what you should wear under your band pants. In cooler weather, sweatpants, long underwear, lycra, or warmup pants are good, but these must be tucked into your socks so they don't fall out the bottom of your pants while marching. Please be prepared with all of your uniform parts on Friday AND Saturday, and be sure to put your name in your shoes!

Pictures Up Now; Video Sunday

FMB @ Burg 9/7/07
Originally uploaded by fhsbando. Pictures from our rainy, but amazing night at Mechanicsburg are up on the flickr page. I'll be crunching the video and putting it up Sunday. We'll review the tape during Monday's 8th period rehearsal as well. You all did a fantastic job and didn't let the rain bother you at all. Many things were better than they have been in rehearsal, and you pulled off Movement II with grace and beauty. I'm proud of you all!

Hilliard Performance Time

I JUST got the schedule for Hilliard contest on September 15. We're second off the line at 5:15, performing first in class B. In our class are Northwestern, Northwest, and London. More details will be available on Monday. One week to contest! Let's defend our title with PRIDE!

Get This: Drum Pants (Why didn't I think of that?)

Image's true. DRUM PANTS. Gotta see to believe it.

Thanks Jacob, Katie, and Allison for helping me get uniforms ready. We should be able to finish eveything by Monday morning!

FMB: Doing the WHOLE Show!

We're going to do the whole show with no announcements tonight. We should be able to get off in just under 10 minutes if we run off the field as soon as we're done! Let's do it and do it right! GO BAND!!!

SUMMER uniform tomorrow

Just a reminder that we are wearing SUMMER uniform tomorrow night at Mechanicsburg. We'll also be wearing hats and gloves, but we're staying cool as possible. Please have your band polo, black shorts, white socks and white-ish shoes for Friday.

Mvt. II Video From Rehearsal

Mvt. II looked and sounded pretty good at rehearsal tonight. You're finally figuring out how to play beautifully. You can't really grasp how neat the drill is with the limited view of the camera. It'll really impress you after I film it Friday at Burg from the top of their monster press box! Critique of this clip is forthcoming...check back soon.

Tshirts Available Friday!

Tshirts will be ready for pick up on Friday, beginning at 7:30 A.M. If you haven't paid, you won't get your shirt. They are pretty sharp!

Drum Key?

Whomever used my drum key on Tuesday after school has not yet returned it. Could you please get it to me first thing in the morning? Thanks!

Picture Day is Tuesday

FMB pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 11. You will have your individual pictures taken during study hall, JHCB class, 7th period choir, or 8th period band. The group picture will be taken at 2:30PM. Please have all of your uniform parts here that day, including shoes and socks. You do not have to buy pictures, but you MUST HAVE THEM TAKEN for the composite photo. If you have questions, email Mrs. Garwood at Skylight Media.

U Owe 4 Tshirts

The following band members need to pay the boosters ASAP for your Tshirt. $10 check or money order payable to Fairbanks Music Boosters in the mailbox.

Uniform for Friday?

I'm pondering switching to Summer uniform for Friday. It's supposed to be 90 degrees friday and quite humid. Thoughts?

Choose To Be Positive...A Motivational Rant.

Let's face it. We live in a negative world. This is prohibited, that is against the law, thou shalt not, don't walk on the grass...The best way to overcome it all is to CHOOSE TO BE POSITIVE. I'm hoping the FMB can rise to the occasion and realize their potential. You are capable of so much, but you must choose to do your best. You must CHOOSE to do what needs to be done and to realize you are important. The success of our the quality of its performances, in the genuineness of our artistic statement, and in the passion that we put into it, depends on YOU. You CAN rise up and be the exceptional band. Not just one that wallows in mediocrity, but one that excels. I know that each one of you has deep inside of you the desire, the determination, and the dedication that it takes to do your best. Won't you let it show at Wednesday's rehearsal? On Friday night? On the 15th at Hilliard? I know you can...and will. YOU are the FMB, and you are t…

Calendar of Events - New Address

Please update your bookmarks. The official Fairbanks Music Department calendar is at a new address. I changed it for two reasons: 1. It's now the "Music Department" and not the "Fairbanks Band" calendar. 2. I can now update the event calendar from my laptop, not just from my primary computer.

This means that the calendar is now REALLY up to date. Click on an event to see more info. All the links on the web page have been updated accordingly, but you will need to change your bookmark if you have it linked directly to the calendar. The new address is:

Oh, Come On Now...
