Game On! See You At 6:30

The game for tonight is ON! We will rehearse at 6:30 PM tonight, since we won't be tackling any new repertoire. If you do not feel safe traveling the roads tonight, do not feel badly about not coming. We will make do with the band members we have. Let's have fun and cheer the Panthers on to a homecoming victory tonight!

Game Status For Tonight...

I'm not really sure where we stand for tonight's homecoming game vs. Riverside. My road is pretty badly drifted and I'm guessing there might be some bad roads between DeGraff and here, so watch your instant alerts. If the game is on, we will have a band. If the game is on, please weigh your individual situation and come only if you feel it's safe. I'll also post here whether the game is on or off as soon as I know. I'd hate for us to miss our homecoming game, but I'd hate it worse if some of you set out on the road and didn't make it to FHS. I hope your snow days are as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

FMB 2009 Smackdown!

I've been looking at prospective shows for the 2009 FMB season and have whittled my choices down to two spectacular shows! I really feel we couldn't go wrong with either Danny Elfman's Nightmare Before Christmas, or The Who's Tommy. If you're interested in checking them out, click on the links below and click on the "listen" link to stream each of the tunes. Next year's seniors are helping me in the final decision making, but if you want to leave any feedback as a comment, I would be glad to take them into consideration.

Nightmare Before Christmas:

Solo and Ensemble Times TBA Soon

I just got an email from Mark Oppenheimer from Hilliard schools, and he's publishing the times for OMEA solo and ensemble contest today. That means that those of you who are registered will know by the end of this week what your performance times are for the contest on February 7.

Speaking of Concerts...

The annual mid-year concert will be on Tuesday, March 3, at 7 PM in the FHS gymnasium. Performing groups will include the 6th grade band, JH band, HS choir, and HS concert band. Attendance is required for performers in these groups. The event is free and open to the public.

The FHSCB will also perform in the OMEA concert band adjudicated event on Friday, March 6 at Thomas Worthington High School. Time is TBA. Attendance is required for all FHSCB members, so please make arrangments now to be able to attend. Our performance is free and open to the public. Band members will be transported by bus.

Holiday Concert 2009?!?!

Are you a planner? Do you like having advance notice as far ahead as possible? Then put this date on your calendar: 2009 Fairbanks Music Department's Holiday Concert is on Monday, December 14, at 7 PM. It's booked. Signed, sealed, and delivered.

FHSCB and JHCB Challenges Friday

Challenges for FHSCB and JHCB will be this Friday, January 20. JH will be over Agincourt 1415 and HS will be over National Emblem. Please be prepared to play. Your performance will be on video tape and then reviewed over the weekend. Results will be posted as soon as possible.

I Only Appear To Be Lazy...

I know. I know I haven't blogged much in the last month or so. I very much got out of the habit during the Holiday break and it just continued into the new year. In my defense, there really hasn't been a lot going on in the Fairbanks Music Department. We've started preparing for our next concert on March 3, and the FHSCB trip to OMEA contest on March 6. Otherwise, it's been very low key, with lots of delays and cancellations. I'm working on getting back into the habit of posting something EVERY DAY.

Now don't think I'm doing nothing. I read a LOT of information every day on my news reader and share articles that I think are applicable, appropriate, or just plain interesting or funny. You can see my articles I share on the news page or in the right hand column of this blog. I assure you that every article I link has been previewed and is family-friendly, so feel free to click and see what I've been reading. Just because I'm …

No School; No Game

School is canceled for Thursday, January 15. The girls' basketball game (as well as all evening activities) is canceled as well. No pep band. I'll get back to you if/when we will play at the rescheduled game. Enjoy your day off!

So...What's The Deal?

I have no word on Thursday night's pep band game. The feeling is that the outlook is not good, but we'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon for sure. I'll update you here as soon as I know, but you'll also get an "instant alert" if the game is off. Either way, please take your own safety into mind if/when you decide to venture out. If the game is on and you don't feel safe coming in, then don't. We'll make do with the musicians we have.

Check back Thursday for updates on the game status. I'm guessing we'll have no school tomorrow, but again, that is purely conjecture at this point. Hope you enjoyed your early day off :-)

Next Pep Band Thursday

Our next pep band gig is this Thursday when the girls team plays North Union. Rehearsal is at 6pm. See you there!
