Can You Help Wash Raincoats?

Hello all....

We are in need of the rain coats washed. Tonight as you pick your child up could you please take a few rain coats with you and wash them? They are just nylon coats and if you could run them through your machine and hang them to dry and bring them back to school on Wednesday that would be awesome.

Thank you all very much...6 days till the first contest.....whoop whoop...!!

Music Department Fall Fundraiser Starts Today!

Fairbanks Music Department's Annual Fall Fundraiser Sale begins:  Thursday, September 16 Sheets are due:  Monday, September 27 Delivery: Tuesday, October 26
Dear Musicians and Parents, The Fairbanks Music Department is the largest in the school, serving over 220 students in eight grades.  It takes money to support our musical efforts, and student-raised money is a substantial part of that.  Our goal this year is to raise $5000 from  this sale.  This is the ONLY fundraiser for the music department as a whole this entire school year. This money is used for items like music, supplies, repairs, transportation, instruments, and many other day-to-day expenses.  It is asked that all members of the music department help in this important fundraising event. Students are asked to sell 10 items from the sales brochure, and are rewarded with cash on many different levels, including a day off pizza and movie party for sections of each group who sell the most per person!
PLEASE COLLECT PAYMENT AND SU…

FMB asked about this, so I thought I would post it.  Tremendous ending to a football game, with apologies to the trombone player that got mauled.... (YouTube video blocked at school)

5th Parents: Important Info (especially if you missed the meeting!)

Parent Meeting The parent meeting is on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 PM in the high school cafeteria. If one parent of each band member cannot attend this meeting ,please indicate on your form so I can contact you with further info. Instruments Students need to have an instrument by the week of September 20. If you plan on renting from Music Arts Center, you need to get into the store to rent no later than Thursday, September 24, to guarantee you will have an instrument for the first day of class. If you are using a used instrument, please get it serviced before using it in class. If you need advice on purchasing a used instrument, please feel free to contact me. Clarinet Mouthpieces The most important part of any clarinet is the mouthpiece. After years of experience, I find that upgrading to a better quality mouthpiece makes better clarinet players in the beginning, and in the long haul. Clarinet players should be playing on a Vandoren B45. New mouthpieces of this type cost around $100 but …

Have a great day and hope to see many tonight.

Some of the things we will be discussing:
We need to fill 3 positions to be filled. One being the treasurer position...we will be voting to place Lisa Voit in this position. We also have a secretary and assistant secretary position that need to be filled. If you would like to help us out...we would greatly appreciate it.

5th Band - Parent Meeting Tonight! (9/14)

The meeting for parents of fifth grade band members is tonight, September 14, at 7PM in the High School cafeteria.  I will outline expectations for parents and students and be available to answer any questions you might have.  You will be able to rent an instrument from Music Arts Center and take that instrument home with you tonight if you wish!

If you have your own instrument already, you must bring it to this meeting so we can evaluate if it will meet your child's needs and also to diagnose any repairs that it may need before it can be used in class.

If you cannot make this meeting, a recap of the meeting will go home with your student on Wednesday, September 15.  If you have any questions about your child's participation in the band program, just drop me a note at fhsbando@gmail.com.

Here is a copy of the letter that went home with all band students today:

5th Grade Band Starts Soon!

I received 30 interest forms from fifth graders today...the FIRST day they could turn them in!  This makes me very excited to get started with this fine group of band students.  If you have not received the 5th band info packet from your child, you can download a copy of it by clicking here:

5th Band Info Packet (.pdf format, 289k)

It's not too late to return a form.  Get it to your study center teacher ASAP, however.  I will only allow students to try out instruments if they have returned a form.

Here are the days which your child will get to do their instrument fitting with me during study center:

Mr. Fillman - Wednesday, September 8
Mr. Hammond - Thursday, September 9
Mrs. Ward - Friday, September 10

Any student who did not get to try out on one of these days will get to go on Monday, September 13.

I will send home a recommendation letter on Tuesday, September 14, detailing what instrument I think would be the best fit for your child.  The parent meeting is on that same date, Septe…

I want to also say Thank you to Lisa Voit, Amy Wenerstrom and Kelly Moran for helping with the uniform fitting and picture day. The winner of the "MOST" grown-out of uniform goes to Micah Davis...he grew 5 inches over the summer and was really waiting for the flood. Again, I appreciated the help!
