5th Band - Parent Meeting Tonight! (9/14)

The meeting for parents of fifth grade band members is tonight, September 14, at 7PM in the High School cafeteria.  I will outline expectations for parents and students and be available to answer any questions you might have.  You will be able to rent an instrument from Music Arts Center and take that instrument home with you tonight if you wish!

If you have your own instrument already, you must bring it to this meeting so we can evaluate if it will meet your child's needs and also to diagnose any repairs that it may need before it can be used in class.

If you cannot make this meeting, a recap of the meeting will go home with your student on Wednesday, September 15.  If you have any questions about your child's participation in the band program, just drop me a note at fhsbando@gmail.com.

TONIGHT! - Tuesday, September 14
Fifth Grade Band Parent Meeting
7:00 P.M. – High School Cafeteria
*I would like to meet with at least one parent of each interested fifth grader.  If you are unable to attend, your child will receive an information packet on Tuesday about student and parent expectations as well as instrument purchase, rental, or repair.
*Wind Players - The recommendation above is based on your child’s preferences and any physical and academic abilities that I have observed or researched.  This recommendation is made to insure your child has the best potential to be successful in playing an instrument.  
*Percussionists - Students interested in percussion were auditioned on rhythmic imitation and hand-eye coordination and indexed with reading scores.  With the size of our band taken into consideration, only four students have been selected to be percussionists.  Those who did not qualify and are still interested may begin on a wind instrument and switch to percussion if an opening becomes available.  You may also wish to consider private instruction in percussion.
*If you have an instrument for your child, you must bring it to this meeting to be inspected and/or sent in for repairs or overhaul.  Every student must have a quality instrument that is in good working order to begin band class.
*If you cannot make it to this meeting, you will receive important information on Wednesday, September 15 covering the information you missed.
*Students should have an instrument rented or secured by Monday, September 20 for the first week of classes.
