Fall Fundraiser Kicks Off Today!

Fairbanks Music Department's Annual Fall Cookie DoughFundraiser Sale begins:  Thursday, September 20
Sheets and money are due:  Monday, October 1
Delivery: Tuesday, October 23 Dear Musicians and Parents,
The Fairbanks Music Department is the largest department in the school, serving over 220 students in eight grades.  It takes money to support our musical efforts, and student-raised money is a substantial part of that.  Our goal this year is to raise $6000 from  this sale.  This is the ONLY fundraiser for the music department as a whole this entire school year. This money is used for items like music, supplies, repairs, transportation, instruments, rewards, uniforms/apparel, and many other day-to-day expenses.  It is asked that all members of the music department help in this important fundraising event.
Students are asked to sell 12 items from the sales brochure, and are rewarded with cash on many different levels, including a day off pizza and movie party for sections of each group who…

5th Band Parents: If You Missed The Meeting (pt. II)

Dear Parents of Fifth Grade Students,
I understand that even though you could not attend the meeting on Sept. 18, your child is still interested in the Fairbanks Band Program.  Your student has had the opportunity to try an instrument and we have made a recommendation as to which fits your child best. It is your responsibility, if you wish your child to participate, to acquire your own instrument, or to contact Music Arts Center to arrange a rental instrument.  Classes will begin the week of, September 24, so you must make arrangements for an instrument or rent an instrument at Music Arts Center in Hilliard, Worthington, or Westerville store, or from another reputable music instrument dealer If you have any questions about instrument rental or purchase, please contact Music Arts directly by calling (800) 392-8000.  If you have any general questions, feel free to contact me at 937.243.2031 or at   Classes will begin the week of September 24.  A detailed schedu…

5th Band: If you missed the parent meeting...

5th Band Parent Meeting - September 18, 2012
Instruments Students need to have an instrument by the week of September 24. If you plan on renting from Music Arts Center, you need to get into the store to rent no later than Thursday, September 20, to guarantee you will have an instrument for the first day of class. If you are using a used instrument, please get it serviced before using it in class. If you need advice on purchasing a used instrument, please feel free to contact me. Students will not be permitted to play on a sub-par instrument.
Clarinet Mouthpieces The most important part of any clarinet is the mouthpiece. After years of experience, I find that upgrading to a better quality mouthpiece makes better clarinet players in the beginning, and in the long haul. Clarinet players should be playing on a Vandoren B45. New mouthpieces of this type cost around $100 but you can find some in Music Arts stores that are gently used and sterilized for less than half price.  Other options inclu…

Piano Mover?

Mrs. Jill Barr and her family have been kind enough to donate a nearly-new upright piano to the Fairbanks Music Department and we are so appreciative and thankful for their kind consideration! Our current fleet of pianos is in disrepair and are just plain old.  This will be a welcome addition to our inventory.

Is there anyone associated with our program who is willing and able to move this piano from Plain City to the FHS band room?  I am willing to pay a professional piano mover to transport, but if there is someone willing to help out at a reduced or no cost, their time and effort will be greatly appreciated.  Please contact me at as soon as possible as we need to retrieve it by September 28.

Some things happening with the band:
