FMB Pictures: Friday, Sept. 6. 2:10pm.

Fairbanks Marching Band pictures will be on Friday, September 6 during 7th period band.  8th grade members will be excused from their last period class.  Tolles students need to see Mr. Keller for an excuse to come over early. Individual pictures will be taken first and the group picture at 2:45.

An order form is available for download HERE. Please bring your order form and payment with you to picture day.

Everyone needs to get their picture taken, even if you are not ordering.

SBO Essay Contest

School Band and Orchestra magazine is sponsoring an essay contest. First prize wins $10,000 in college tuition for you and a $10,000 to your music program. Details can be found at

The topic? 250 or less words on "Now, more than ever, music education is important because..."

5th Grade Band Starts Soon!

The first letter about 5th grade band goes home on Tuesday.  If you did not get it at your home, here's everything in a nutshell:

FMB: Itinerary for First Game!

Itinerary Fairbanks vs. Galion Friday, August 30

5:15 - Rehearse at Harmony Field 6:15 - Dress/Prep 6:40 - Uniform inspection 6:50 - Pre-Game 7:00 - Kick Off *8:00 - Halftime *9:30 - Game is over *9:45 - Dismissed

-Dress is SUMMER UNIFORM.  No visible jewelry please. Ladies: long hair should be up.
-The band room will NOT be open from 3:00-5:00.  Supervision will not be provided.  Go home.  Rest. Get some food.  Be ready to rehearse at school at 5:15.
-Members are expected to be on their best behavior at all times when we are in uniform.  
-You will have the third quarter off to eat and relax.  Otherwise, you are to be in the stands and ready to play when called upon.  Non-band members are not allowed inside the fence and in the band stands.
-Pre-game, cheers, and contest show music is to be memorized.  Please be prepared. Stand tunes will be provided.

FMB Will NOT Be at Meet The Teams Tonight

The Fairbanks Marching Band will not be at "Meet The Teams" night tonight, as they are traveling to Dublin Coffman HS for a band leadership/motivation seminar with nationally renowned speaker Scott Lang. We hope you miss us, but understand why we won't be performing at this annual back-to-school event. Come see us at our first home game next Friday, August 30 at Kyre Field!

Welcome Back, Students!

*Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!  I'm excited to get started and look forward to seeing you all this week.

*6th grade band members do not need instruments their first day of class.  6th band will meet on an A,B,C rotation. Brasses meet first on Wednesday, August 21. Woodwinds start on August 22. Percussion will have their first class on August 23.

*5th grade students will be receiving 5th band information very soon.  Stay tuned!

*JH Band members (except for FMB members) will not need their instrument on the first day of school.

*FMB does rehearse after school on Wednesday 8/21 from 3:15-5:15 as scheduled.

*6th and 7th grade general music students will need to bring a pocket folder and a pencil to their first day of class.  Both 6th and 7th general is in four sections and meet for an entire nine weeks.

*HS concert band will not meet until October.  Go to study hall in the cafeteria during 7th period for the first nine weeks.  Look for seating audition material in mid-October…

Band Supplies - Plan Ahead!

Bob Lust, our Music Arts Center representative stops by weekly to tend to repairs and supply needs. All band members in grades 6-12 are responsible for providing their own supplies, including reeds, valve oil, and cleaning materials.  If you are in Columbus, you can stop by one of their stores, or by any reputable music dealer and get these supplies.  They are also available online at and Woodwind/Brasswind (  If you would like to order through Bob and pay by check or cash, please download the form below, fill it out, and return with payment to Mr. Keller by Monday of each week.  Check is preferred, but cash is accepted, just be sure to put the cash in an envelope and staple it to the order form.

FMB: Calendar Reminders

This is just a little reminder about all the important dates coming up for FMB members. Remember you can always see the full calendar of events HERE. Also, please remember all rehearsals and performances are required for performers as per the Fairbanks Band attendance policy.

Monday, Aug. 19 - Uniform fittings. Come into the band room at your leisure between 3 and 5:15 to be fitted. Please wear lightweight shorts and a tshirt.

Wednesday, Aug. 21 - First day of school. FULL REHEARSAL 3:15-5:15

Thursday, Aug. 22 - Scott Lang Band Leadership Seminar. Load 5:15pm. Return 9:15 pm.  Details here.

Friday, Aug. 24 - All pregame music is to be memorized.

Friday, Aug. 30 - First football game. (home) Summer uniform

Friday, September 6 - FMB Pictures - 2:10pm.  Tolles and middle school will be released for pics.

Friday, September 6 - First away football game. Full uniform (you need your Drillmasters)

Saturday, September 7 - King's Island. Details TBA. Depart app. 8am. Return appx. midnight.


FMB: Scott Lang Workshop Aug. 22

A wonderful opportunity has fallen into our lap and the FMB membership will be attending a band leadership seminar with nationally-renowned speaker Scott Lang.  Thanks to a kind invitation from Mr. Bradstreet and the Dublin Coffman marching band, we will be traveling to Dublin for a session with Mr. Lang on Thursday, August 22.  Dress is casual.  The seminar fee will be paid out of band funds and will be at no cost to band members.  Here's the schedule:
5:15pm - Load bus 5:20 - Depart 5:45 - Arrive DCHS 6-8:30 - Seminar 8:45 - Depart for home 9:15 - Arrive FHS

Booster Meeting Wednesday

Greetings to everyone,

We are getting things set for the upcoming season and will be having a booster meetingthis Wednesday evening in the band room at 6. All are welcome to attend to help us layout the new "2013 James Bond" season. 

We will be covering all our events to make sure we have everything we need for the kids, also the Band building/concessions and hope to be able to talk about any props that are needed. Just to list a few items. Please plan on coming and helping us plan for this year!

First year members and veterans who need shoes must acquire their own “Drillmaster” shoes.  Here is a list of dealers you can contact to purchase your pair.  For the sake of uniformity, which is very important to our group, only Drillmaster brand shoes are acceptable.  Be sure to specify BLACK shoes (as white is also available).
