Fall Fundraiser Starts TODAY!

Fairbanks Music Department's Annual Fall Fundraiser Sale begins:  Tuesday, September 30
Sheets and money are due:  Monday, October 13
Delivery: November 3-6
The Fairbanks Music Department is the largest department in the school, serving over 220 students in eight grades.  It takes money to support our musical efforts, and student-raised money is a substantial part of that.  Our goal this year is to raise $6000 from  this sale.  This is the ONLY fundraiser for the music department as a whole this entire school year. This money is used for items like music, supplies, repairs, transportation, instruments, rewards, uniforms/apparel, and many other day-to-day expenses.  It is asked that all members of the music department help in this important fundraising event.
Students are asked to sell at least 10 items from the sales brochure, and are rewarded with prizes on many different levels, including a day off pizza and movie party for sections of each group who sell the most per person!
If your…

One More Prize: MEGA PIZZA BATTLE!!!

As a final motivational prize, each performing group has been divided into sections.  When the sale is over, the section of the band or choir with the highest average of items sold per person will win a day off from rehearsal and will get to eat pizza and pop (or Donuts) and watch a movie instead! (Please note: the top group must average over 5 items per person to qualify for the party)
As stated earlier, students who choose to make a donation in lieu of selling do not qualify for other prizes, but these donations DO count toward your group sales average.  We will credit students with 1 item for every $5 of donations.  For example: a $25 donation will credit your group with 5 items.
Here are the groups in each class:
High School Choir
     1. Sopranos
     2. Altos
     3. Tenors/Baritones

5th Parents: If You Missed The Meeting...

September 26, 2014
Dear Parents of Fifth Grade Students,
I understand that even though you could not attend the meeting on Sept. 25, your child is still interested in the Fairbanks Band Program.  Your student has had the opportunity to try an instrument and we have made a recommendation as to what instrument fits your child best.
It is your responsibility, if you wish your child to participate, to acquire your own instrument, or to contact Music Arts Center to arrange a rental instrument.  Classes will begin the week of, October 6, so you must make arrangements for an instrument or rent an instrument at Music Arts Center in Hilliard, Worthington, or Westerville store, or from another reputable music instrument dealer.
If you have any questions about instrument rental or purchase, please contact Music Arts directly by calling (800) 392-8000.  If you have any general questions, feel free to contact me at 937.243.2031 or at

Classes will begin the week of October…

5th Band Parent Meeting - September 25, 2014
Instruments Students need to have an instrument by the week of October 6. If you are using a used instrument, please get it serviced before using it in class. If you need advice on purchasing a used instrument, please feel free to contact me. Students will not be permitted to play on a sub-par instrument.
Mouthpieces The most important part of any clarinet is the mouthpiece. After years of experience, I find that upgrading to a better quality mouthpiece makes better clarinet players in the beginning, and in the long haul. Clarinet players should be playing on a Vandoren B45. New mouthpieces of this type cost around $100 but you can find some in Music Arts stores that are gently used and sterilized for less than half price.  Other options include or Woodwind&Brasswind.
Trumpet players should start on a Bach 7C or equivalent.  Trombone/euphoniums should start on a 6 1/2 AL mouthpiece or equivalent.
Books Wind players will use the Esse…
