FMB Update 4/5
*We have 37 tentative members for this year's FMB. Quality is more important the quantity. Our group is well balanced and full of good musicians! We are still look for two additional sideline percussion personnel. Please contact me if you you know someone who might be interested in helping out in this important role.
*The calendar of events is up-to-date. We tentatively have three Saturday events scheduled this year, including three contests at Springfield Northwest, Watkins Memorial, and Dublin Jerome. We are also tentatively scheduled to perform at the North Union band festival as well. These, and all events, are required. There is no bench in band, therefore it is essential that all band members be at all events unless excused via the attendance policy. The calendar is always available online from any digital device. The attendance policy emphasizes teacher member's importance to the group. Read it, know it, be it.
*Pre-camp is the week of July 17 and rehearsals will be 8am-noon. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled in the afternoons this week for percussion or for visual work. These dates and times will be published as soon as they are set.
*Band camp is July 30-August 4 at Wittenberg University this year. More details about camp will be available in May. Camp will cost $300 this year and includes your FMB 2017 t-shirt. If you have not paid your $75 deposit, it is now PAST DUE. Make checks or money orders payable to "Fairbanks Music Boosters" and submit to the booster mailbox ASAP. Attendance at band camp is mandatory if you are participating in the 2017 FMB.
*Our fundraiser has begun to defray their cost to band camp. Der Dutchman pies and gift certificates are being sold and the profit credited to students' accounts. Order forms and flyers are available in the band room. Order forms and payment is due no later than April 24 in the booster mailbox. All payments must be made by check or money order. *The 2017 show is titled "Planetary Collisions" and was composed by Jason K. Nitsch. It creatively utilizes elements from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" including Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. You can hear the entire show HERE. Our drill this year will be designed by Robert Strunks of RMS Visual Designs.
*Thanks to a generous grant in prior years, the Fairbanks Music Boosters offer some scholarships to deserving students in need. Applications are available on the information rack in the band room. Applications are due by May 15 in the booster mailbox.
*All new band members will need an official band polo shirt as part of their Summer uniform and also to wear under their winter uniform on contest weekends. This will once again be provided by the music department. Mr. Keller will ask for shirt sizes before the end of the school year. If you are a veteran band member and need a new shirt, they are $25. Please pay at the time of your order if you require a new shirt. The shirts are dry-fit and gender specific. Band members also need to supply their own pair of all-black shorts and white socks with white or white-ish athletic shoes for Summer uniform.
*Drillmaster marching shoes are required for the full uniform. It is recommended that rookies not order these until August as their feet may grow between now and the marching season. Drillmasters will need to be acquired by the first week of September. More details will be shared on the blog this Summer about Drillmasters.
*Music folders will be distributed on Friday, April 7. Members are to take good care of this music and not lose it. It's never too early to start working on your pre-game music, cheers, stand tunes, or competition show music. Senior show music will be distributed in September.

*Finally, if your family has not already done so, send an email from your preferred email account or accounts to email@example.com so that you can receive important information from the boosters about Sign Up Genius, supplies, events, and meetings. Emails from the boosters will be kept to a minimum.
